Lausanne, Switzerland, March 6, 2020 – Serbia setter Maja Ognjenovic powered VakifBank Istanbul to a phenomenal win over Dinamo Moscow in the Russian capital, that has the Turkish side with one foot in the semifinals of the European Champions League – but her MVP performance in the Russian capital had a bit of a twist.
Ognjenovic, 35, has gone through a myriad of clubs across Europe in her illustrious career, but her last stop before returning this season to Istanbul (where she previously had two stints with Eczacibasi) was at Dinamo Moscow.
Still, the Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist and 2018 world champion with Serbia, produced an awesome performance in VakifBank’s sweep of Dinamo this week, earning the MVP of the match award for her contribution.
Ognjenovic is back in action with VakifBank on Sunday 8 March in the local Istanbul derby against Galatasaray, before facing her old teammates of Dynamo Moscow again next week in the return leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.
