Giovanni Caprara and Dutch Volleyball Federation part ways

Amsterdam, Netherlands, March 2, 2020 – Giovanni Caprara will not return to the Netherlands this spring as the head coach of the national women’s team.

Caprara was presented in early November 2019 as the new head coach of the Dutch women’s team and was tasked with qualifying for the Olympic Games in Tokyo at the Olympic qualification tournament in Apeldoorn. Immediately after the end of the qualifier, Caprara’s temporary contract expired and, regardless of the outcome in Apeldoorn, a possible new contract was discussed.

Caprara expressed the wish to spend more time with his family after many demanding years in high-level volleyball.

“Gianni had to perform under high pressure for years as a top coach,” technical director Joop Alberda explained. “I understand that he wants to spend more time with his family now, and that is why we have jointly decided not to extend the contract. That is a pity, but the national team has to move on, and I am responsible for the future of the programme.”

The Netherlands Volleyball Federation (Nevobo) is currently looking for a replacement for Caprara.
