Uberlândia, Brazil, February 29, 2020 – Dentil Praia Clube remains on fire in the Brazilian Superliga as the team secured its 11th-straight victory, a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) win over Osasco Audax, at the Arena Sabiazinho, in Uberlândia, on Friday.
Middle-blocker Ana Carolina ‘Carol’ da Silva had a dominant performance at the net as she scored 14 points, nine of them in blocks. Her great performance limited Osasco’s main offensive weapons, outside hitter Jaqueline Carvalho and Serbian opposite Ana Bjelica, to just eight and seven points, respectively.
Carol’s nine blocking points accounted for half of the 18 scored by Praia Clube in the entire match and almost doubled the five successful blocks of Osasco Audax in the evening.
“I’m obviously happy about my individual performance but what matters the most is that the team played well,” Carol said. “We knew serving well would be important and our defense did a great job too, but I think our determination and our desire to win made the difference. I had some pain in my back and I didn’t know if I would be able to play or not until this afternoon, so this victory is very special.”
Considered the best player of the match, the 28-year-old Carol, who was the best blocker of the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship and is a regular at the Brazilian national team since 2014, is the most effective blocker of the Brazilian Superliga with 78 points scored at the net (averaging 1.2 per set).
Praia Clube, which lost a match in the Brazilian Superliga for the last time on December 18, is at the top of the standings with 53 points (18 wins, one loss) with three more matches to be played before the start of the elimination round. The team returns to the court on Tuesday, March 3, against Flamengo.
