Australian pairs net VolleyFest Cook Islands qualifying wins

Rarotonga, Cook Island, January 14, 2019 – Two teams from Australia posted qualifying wins here Tuesday to advance to the main draw at this week’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event on this South Pacific island.


The teams of Jack/Tim Gregory and Matthew Abela/Patrick Tang posted VolleyFest Cook Island qualifying wins over teams from Canada and Tuvalu, respectively, to advance to Wednesday modified pool play rounds in the 16-team Main Draw for the first-ever World Tour event on any South Pacific Island.

Twelve (12) of the 16 teams from Wednesday’s competition advance to Thursday’s opening elimination rounds with the four pool play winners earning byes into the VolleyFest Cook Islands’ quarterfinals. The second- and third-place finishers will play opening elimination bracket matches to start Thursday’s schedule.

The VolleyFest Cook Islands is the seventh men’s event on the 2019-2020 FIVB World Tour calendar and the fourth within the Asian Volleyball Confederation where a total of 19 tournaments will be played during the 2020 international beach volleyball campaign.
