Robinson will go through a procedure in a Merseyside hospital and hopes it proves a success and he can return to playing.

The left back was due to have his op on Wednesday but this has been delayed by a fortnight.

The Latics star is unlikely to appear again this season but if he gets the all clear his dream move to Milan could still happen in the summer.

The drama began on deadline day at the end of January when Robinson has his initial medical in Italy and an abnormal resting heart rate caused concern.

Robinson flew back to England and arranged further checks to get to the root of the issue which came as a shock to all parties.

Stunned Robinson has shown no signs of health issues in the past. He had a full medical before joining Wigan from Everton at the start of the season.

Wigan gave Robinson time off to sort out the problem in private. He flew to Dubai on holiday to rest up before the op.

Milan are still keen to sign Robinson in the summer if he is given the all clear and Wigan’s owners need the cash to help balance the books.

Robinson has a three-year contract worth around £2.5million on the table with Milan.

Their legendary football chief Paolo Maldini has stayed in touch since the medical snag appeared.

The fee and terms may have to be adjusted but Robinson hopes to come back as good as new to complete the transfer.
