PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN players were forced to wear different shirt numbers in their Coupe de France match against Lorient due to the rules insisting the starting 11 players wear numbers one to 11.
The substitutes must wear numbers 12-18, meaning players like Mauro Icardi had to swap his usual number 18 shirt for the number nine because he was in the starting line-up.
Kylian Mbappe posted a picture on his Twitter account showing off his new shirt number (14) with Neymar who was wearing 12 for the cup match.
Mbappe’s tweet jokingly compared themselves to Thierry Henry who used to wear number 14 and Brazilian futsal player Falcao who wore 12.
PSG edged past Lorient with a 1-0 win thanks to a late goal from Spanish midfielder Pablo Sarabia.
Forward Edinson Cavani looks set to leave the French side this month after handing in a transfer request.
The Uruguayan has attracted the interest of Chelsea, who are ready to offer the 32-year-old an 18-month deal.
Chelsea are unlikely to meet PSG’s valuation of £23million for the striker who is out of contract in the summer.
Atletico Madrid had a bid of £8.5million rejected earlier this month.
Cavani isn’t the only PSG player to be considering a move to England with defender Layvin Kurzawa open to a move to Arsenal as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his defence.
Arsenal were interested in a £6million deal for the left-back but are now planning to wait until the summer to sign the 27-year-old on a free when his contract expires.
Should Cavani leave, it is unlikely manager Thomas Tuchel will need to replace him with Mbappe, Neymer and Icardi in fine form this season.
Their attacking options aren’t limited with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Angel Di Maria providing enough options for Tuchel.
PSG continue to dominate Ligue 1 as they sit eight points clear of Marseille at the top of the table.
