When does the transfer window open, how long is it open for and can both Premier League and EFL clubs sign players?

THE TRANSFER WINDOW this summer will be unlike any that have gone down before.

Due to the impact of coronavirus across the footballing landscape, top-flight clubs and those further down the rungs will be doing deals slightly differently this year.

When does the transfer window open?

Well, back in February at a shareholders’ meeting between Premier League clubs, it was decided that the window would close at the end of August/early September – following two seasons when it shut on the eve of the domestic campaign.

BUT coronavirus has put pay to that.

Premier League football is now back on following its suspension in March and is due to conclude on July 26.

Prem chief Richard Masters has revealed the transfer window will not open until the season ends, but there is currently no official dates set for when it will close.

It was recently reported that FIFA are holding talks with clubs about keeping the next transfer window open for longer than usual to help clubs out financially.

It could be that the 2020 summer window remains open until JANUARY 2021 to facilitate more spending.
