WAYNE ROONEY is back in training for Derby – sporting an impressive bushy beard and a thinning hairline.

This is despite spending thousands on hair transplants over the years.

The former Manchester United and England striker was put through his paces ahead of the Championship season resuming after the coronavirus suspension.

But lockdown didn’t look like it had done much for his thinning scalp.

SunSport previously reported how the 34-year-old has spent as much as £30,000 on hair transplants.

He has also been accused of using a spray-on hair thickener during match games to cover up.

Rooney underwent a procedure at London’s Harley Street Hair Clinic in 2011 – where surgeons took hair from the back of his bonce to replant at the front.

He followed up the procedure two years later.

According to hair transplant surgeon Asim Shahmalak of Crown Clinic in Manchester, Rooney could have been using hair thickeners over the years too.

Dr Shahmalak, hair loss expert on Channel 4 series Embarrassing Bodies, said: “Wayne is a good advert for hair thickeners.

“He looks great when he is wearing it, but they come out when you shampoo your hair.”

BEARD TRANSPLANT TOO?

England’s all-time leading goalscorer has previously opened up about his hair loss battle.

In his autobiography, Rooney admitted staring at himself in the mirror and thinking: “Bloody hell, you’re going bald and you’re only a young lad.”

But while some hairs look to be on its way out, others are in full swing.

Rooney decided to grow a beard after joining Derby from the MLS in America.

And his new facial hair proved to be a big talking point.

One fan previously tweeted it looked like it had been “coloured in by his kids over Christmas”.

Some online compared it to a “country lane hedge”.

While another said: “I presume Wayne Rooney’s had a beard transplant? Looks like it was previously Noel Edmunds’?”
