Wayne Rooney remembers hilarious ‘do you want picking up’ tweet’ to former Man Utd pal Ferdinand nine years to the day

WAYNE ROONEY has provided an hilarious throwback to his famous “do you want picking up” tweet to former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand.

The now Derby County star, 34, famously tweeted the world asking the defender if he wanted “picking up in the morning” way back in 2011.

Rooney’s words were intended to be sent as a direct message but ultimately were available for everyone to see.

Roo has never lived it down either, even after all this time – and used it as an opportunity for a laugh earlier today.

To celebrate the anniversary of the funny incident, the ex-England captain quote tweeted his previous one and wrote a new caption to go with it, saying: “9 years ago today. Time flies…..”

Rooney had earlier posted a snap of him celebrating a goal for the Three Lions to celebrate St. George’s Day.

Meanwhile, Ferdinand did eventually answer the question on everyone’s lips in an interview with Joe.co.uk.

When quizzed on whether he did actually catch a lift off Rooney, he replied: “I did actually, yeah.

“I never knew where that came from. For years I saw it and didn’t think anything of it.”

Rooney is leading a players’ fight against a 50 per cent wage deferral at Derby.

The Rams board wanted their squad to go without half of their salaries from next week with an arrangement to pay them back as soon as possible.

But it is understood that the PFA told the Derby players to reject the club’s proposal and negotiate a smaller referral of around 25 per cent.

SunSport understands that England legend Rooney has been nominated as the senior person in the dressing room to lead the players’ negotiations with club CEO Stephen Pearce.

And the former Manchester United and Everton star is even said to be keeping players informed in a WhatsApp group of the progress.
