Watch as Reguilon’s Spurs ‘career is ended’ by Azpilicueta after missing Chelsea ace with ‘never ending slide tackle’

SERGIO REGUILON had his “career ended” by Cesar Azpilicueta after his “never-ending slide tackle” in the build-up to Chelsea’s opener.

The Tottenham man, making his debut for the club, was at fault for the Blues’ first-half strike in their Carabao Cup clash.

Reguilon, 23, gave the ball away around the halfway line, before missing his recovery tackle in incredible manner.

The Spaniard threw himself to the floor and just kept sliding, with Azpilicueta standing his ground and simply watching him fly past him.

Reguilon’s missed lunge even reminded some fans of Sol Campbell’s iconic slide against Croatia in 2007.

Chelsea veteran Azpilicueta was then able to cross the ball to Werner, who tucked the ball away neatly.

Despite it being his very first game in England, fans were quick to pounce on Reguilon’s error.

One fan tweeted: “Azpilicueta really just ended Reguilon’s career on his debut.”

Another recalled Sol Campbell’s infamous lunge, adding: “Did Sergio Reguilon prepare for a move to the PL by binge watching Sol Campbell’s never-ending slide tackle?”

A third joked: “Legend has it Reguilon is still sliding.”

However, Reguilon later set up Erik Lamela for Spurs’ leveller and they went through on penalties.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard went toe-to-toe on the sidelines as the old friends turned enemies during the game.

Just five minutes after Reguilon’s lunge, Mourinho and Lampard were being separated by fourth official Andre Marriner on the touchline.

The pair – who famously worked together during Lampard’s playing career at Chelsea – could be seen exchanging furious barbs.

Reports from inside the stadium said Mourinho was irked by Lampard becoming more vocal after his Chelsea side took the lead.

The Spurs chief is claimed to have roared: “F***ing hell Frank…

“When you’re losing 3-0 you’re not standing up here.”

Mourinho was seen accompanying his rant with furious hand gestures, further suggesting he was becoming enraged by Lampard getting gobby.
