A NON-LEAGUE footballer was shown three cards at once as he got sent off for committing two fouls within 12 seconds.

Alex Low of Garforth Town attempted to stop a counter attack as Bridlington Town cleared a free-kick in their Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash.

He caught his opponent late but the referee played a good advantage as Bridlington’s players swarmed forwards.

But as Garforth tried to defend, Low sprinted back to help out and made a sliding tackle.

The referee gave the free-kick and brought Low aside as Bridlington players appealed.

Low was shown a first yellow card as the referee pointed to where the first offence took place and then immediately raised the yellow card again, followed by the red.

The player, in his fairness, had no complaints and trudged off.

Garforth’s Twitter account shared the clip and wrote: “Here’s something you don’t see every day… The ref gives Garforths’ Alex Low three cards at once.”

Former Premier League whistler Bobby Madley praised the referee for his management of the situation.

He said: “This is excellent refereeing! Always a risk to play advantage on a yellow card, especially on edge of area like that but this is very well managed with really good awareness.”

In the replies, it was suggested that the referee even shouted, “You’ve got a yellow,” to Garforth’s No5 as he chased back before he slid in again.

Thankfully for Low, his red card did not prove critical as his side held on for a 1-1 draw in an eventful game in East Yorkshire.

The incident evoked memories of ex-ref Graham Poll’s famous gaffe at the 2006 World Cup.

Poll booked Josip Simunic three times during the group game between Croatia and Australia.

Poll showed Simunic a yellow card in the 61st minute for a foul Harry Kewell.

Then, in the 90th minute, he booked him again for another foul but didn’t show the red card like he should have done.

Finally, after the final whistle, Simunic angrily pushed Poll and was shown a third yellow card – and finally a red card too.
