TOTTENHAM outcast Gedson Fernandes is set for an early return to Benfica in January after his horror loan spell in North London.
The Portugal star, 21, joined Spurs in January on an 18-month loan deal worth £4million.

But midfielder Gedson has played just 63 minutes out of a possible 810 this season, in the EFL Cup clash with Chelsea.
All in all, he’s played just 13 per cent of the minutes available to him since his January arrival.
Most-recently, Fernandes was also left out of Jose Mourinho’s 25-man squad for the Europa League campaign.
Now reports in Portugal are suggesting Tottenham will cancel his loan deal early and let him return to parent club Benfica in January.
Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira even told Portuguese outlet RTP 3 ‘Gedson has a chance to return in January’.
Tottenham added to their squad in uncharacteristically comprehensive manner in the summer.
As well as bringing in defenders Joe Rodon, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon, as well as attackers Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale – both on loan – Mourinho boosted the midfield.
Giovani Lo Celso’s move was made permanent, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was brought in from Southampton.

The additional depth has left Fernandes on the outside looking in, with it looking increasingly likely he will never play for Spurs again – barring an injury crisis.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are set to reward Son Heung-min with a bumper new contract.
It’s believed fresh terms for Son will ‘be a priority’, with a ‘sharp increase’ on his current wages of around £150,000 a week.
