SPURS are in secret talks with Napoli over the transfer of £45million-rated striker Arkadiusz Milik as a back-up to Harry Kane.
Tottenham only have rookie striker Troy Parrott to turn to if England captain Kane is out.
Spurs want to sign striker Arkadiusz Milik in a £45m deal from Napoli
And boss Jose Mourinho has made it clear Parrott, 18, is not yet ready to step up to the plate.
Polish striker Milik, 26, has scored 36 goals in 45 Serie A starts for Napoli.
And at 6ft 1ins tall he is the big man Mourinho is looking for to lead the line in Kane’s absence.
Mourinho had turned to Dele Alli as a makeshift striker after Kane underwent a hamstring injury in January and was ruled out for the season.
Parrott was an unused sub or used in a very brief cameo near the end of matches as Mourinho refused to throw in the youngster as Tottenham’s form curtailed with Kane’s absence.
Milik has previously played for Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen.
Italian football journalist Nicolo Schira tweeted that Spurs were in secret talks over the transfer.
Napoli will sell the Polish star if they cannot get him to sign a contract extension.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim Napoli will let Milik, who joined the Italians in 2016, go for £45m.
It could be the first in a series of transfers for the North Londoners as Mourinho stamps his mark on the team.
With Jan Vertonghen set to leave on a free transfer they need defensive cover.
Tottenham are also set to complete the free transfer signing of Chelsea striker Willian this summer.
