Ten incredible records runaway Liverpool can break this season from unbeaten runs to most wins in a row

LIVERPOOL look on course to finally break their Premier League duck as they storm towards the title.

After 20 games, they have an almost-perfect record of 19 wins and a draw – those two dropped points coming away at Manchester United in October.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are 13 points clear of Leicester in second – with a game in hand – and it is now surely a case of when, not if, they are confirmed top-flight champions for the first time since 1990.

And there are ten incredible records the runaway Reds are chasing down in what has already been a memorable season…

Best start after 21 games

With their 19 wins and a draw so far, Liverpool have accumulated 58 points already.

One more victory – when they travel to Tottenham on Saturday – will see them overtake Manchester City’s record from 2017/18 of 59 points.

Most consecutive home wins

Manchester City managed 20 victories at the Etihad between 2011 and 2012.

Liverpool currently have 18 Anfield victories so are two away – beat Manchester United, Southampton and West Ham and the record is theirs.

Most consecutive wins

Liverpool won 17 games on the spin between March and October 2019 before that draw at Old Trafford. Since then, they have won 11, leaving them seven short of City’s record tally of 18 from August to December 2017.

The Reds must win every game up to and including their clash with Watford on February 29 to claim this one.

Fewest defeats in a season

Only the Arsenal team of 2003/04 have completed an entire Premier League season without tasting defeat, earning them the nickname the Invincibles.

Liverpool lost just once last term but are looking to go one better this term by going the whole campaign unbeaten.

Longest unbeaten run

That famous Arsenal side under Arsene Wenger managed a whopping 49 matches unbeaten, including that 2003/04 season.

Klopp’s side are on 37, 12 short, and would need to avoid defeat at reigning champions Manchester City to match the record – and could then break it at home to Aston Villa a week later.

Longest time unbeaten

Unsurprisingly, the team that went on the longest unbeaten run also went the longest time between defeats: Arsenal with 537 days.

Victory over Sheffield United on January 2 ensured Liverpool went a whole year without a league defeat. Get to the end of the season unbeaten and they will overtake Arsenal’s record towards the end of June, during the off-season.

Most wins in a season

Another Premier League record, another record held by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. In each of the last two years they have won 32 of their 38 on their way to the title.

Liverpool need to win 14 of their remaining 18 matches to break that record.

Most home wins in a season

Never before have a team won every match at home in one season – Chelsea in 2005/06, Manchester United in 2010/11 and Manchester City in 2011/12 and 2018/19 have managed 18.

Liverpool have won all 11 so far and therefore would complete the full set of 19 by beating Manchester United, Southampton, West Ham, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Burnley and Chelsea.

Most away wins in a season

No prizes for guessing who has won the most away matches in a season – yep, it’s City again. They were victorious in 16 of their 19 trips on the road in 2017/18.

The Reds have eight from nine so far and know if they can win another nine from the remaining ten, they will claim that record, too. It means they can afford to drop points at two of the following: Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham, Norwich, Watford, Everton, Manchester City, Brighton, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Most points in a season

Liverpool have the third-highest points total in a Premier League season, notching up 97 last year. Unfortunately for them, City got 98 to pip them to the title and became the only centurions the year before, finishing on 100.

If the Anfield side somehow win all of their remaining matches, they will smash the current highest tally and finish on a staggering 112 – in fact, they can afford to draw one and lose three and still break City’s total.
