Ten Chelsea transfers that could happen in January including Alaba and Rice IN and Giroud and Tomori OUT

CHELSEA spent over £220million in the summer transfer window.

But Frank Lampard could splash out on more new faces in January.

The recent arrivals have already worked wonders, with the likes of Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy and Timo Werner taking Stamford Bridge by storm.

Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell have also enjoyed fine starts to their Blues careers.

However, after establishing themselves as title contenders, Chelsea could still welcome one or two more additions when the winter window opens next year.

There are also a number of players who find themselves out of the picture, and Chelsea may be swarmed with offers from rivals.

Here, SunSport looks at ten transfers that could happen for the Blues next month…

REPORTS claim Chelsea are clear favourites to sign the versatile Bayern Munich defender as he approaches the final six months of his deal.

Alaba, 28, looks set to become a free agent next summer and is able to sign a pre-contract with foreign teams in January.

But his ability to play as a centre-back, left-back and central midfielder could tempt Lampard into signing Alaba straight away for a small fee.

IN: DECLAN RICE

BEST mates with Blues star Mason Mount, Rice was a target for Chelsea over the summer.

The West Ham leader, 21, has shown he is one of the Premier League’s top young anchormen, with his ability to play in defence also a plus.

Rice would be a fine understudy to N’Golo Kante in the midfield holding role, but Chelsea will have to pay top dollar to sign him from one of their biggest rivals.

IN: MATTHEW BONDSWELL

RB LEIPZIG’S England Under-18 international left-back is a man in demand after a series of impressive displays in Holland.

Former Nottingham Forest starlet Bondswell joined FC Dordrecht on a season-long loan to further his development and has taken the Dutch second division by storm.

He might not get into the Chelsea team immediately, but would be a fine prospect for the future while also providing cover for Chilwell.

OUT: OLIVIER GIROUD

THE veteran Frenchman has been hard done by this season after playing a big role in Chelsea’s fourth-place finish last term.

France’s 34-year-old World Cup winner is yet to start a single Premier League or Champions League game.

And with his place in Didier Deschamps’ Euro squad under threat, Juventus and Inter Milan target Giroud is determined to leave for minutes elsewhere.

OUT: FIKAYO TOMORI

FEATURING just once in the league this season, Tomori is in dire need of game time to continue his development.

The 22-year-old’s fall from grace looks even stranger considering at one stage last season he had become Chelsea’s best centre-back.

Newcastle are keen to take Tomori on loan and Lampard would be wise to let him go rather than keeping him as the fifth choice in his position.

Antonio Rudiger has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford BridgeCredit: Reuters

OUT: ANTONIO RUDIGER

CAST adrift at the start of the season, the Germany international has forced his way back into Lampard’s plans.

However, Rudiger remains firmly behind Silva and Kurt Zouma in the Stamford Bridge pecking order.

And the 27-year-old is now reported to be a target for Barcelona following Gerard Pique’s long-term injury.

Marcos Alonso hasn’t played for Chelsea since SeptemberCredit: Eddie Keogh Telegraph Media Group

OUT: MARCOS ALONSO

YET to feature since the 3-3 draw with West Brom in September, Alonso’s Chelsea days look numbered.

The Premier League and FA Cup winner, 29, does not suit Lampard’s system and looks nowhere near to challenging Chilwell.

Alonso is said to be wanted by Crystal Palace, who believe he is a strong candidate to replace contract rebel Patrick van Aanholt.

OUT: EMERSON PALMIERI

NEVER really making his mark at Chelsea, the former Roma man has long been tipped for an exit.

But despite his lack of club action, Emerson has forced his way into Roberto Mancini’s plans as Italy’s No1 left-back.

That carries a lot of weight, and the 26-year-old is an apparent target for Andrea Pirlo at Juventus.

Kepa Arrizabalaga looks set for a loan move in JanuaryCredit: AFP

OUT: KEPA ARRIZABALAGA

FOOTBALL’S most expensive goalkeeper looks a shadow of his former self, and he may not even be Chelsea’s No2 or No3 with Willy Caballero and Petr Cech supporting Edouard Mendy.

Kepa, 26, is seeing his stock plummet quickly and needs to rebuild his confidence with a solid run of games elsewhere.

SunSport understands Kepa is even wiling to take a huge pay cut to secure a loan this winter, with Sevilla believed to be interested.

Aston Villa want to make Ross Barkley’s loan move permanentCredit: Reuters

OUT: ROSS BARKLEY

SURELY on the cusp of an England return, the 26-year-old has impressed on loan at Aston Villa.

The ambitious Midlands club are eager to sign Barkey permanently after he forged a strong connection with captain Jack Grealish.

Reports claim Chelsea do not want to sell, but Barkley himself could be eager to make the move happen – especially with so much competition for places back at the Bridge.
