The chilling clips recorded during US Navy training flights show three separate incidents involving “unidentified aerial phenomena” – one from November 2004 and two from January 2015.

The hair-raising videos had previously been leaked and acknowledged as legitimate by the Navy and reported on by the media, but they have now been declassified to clarify that they are REAL.

Former Stadium of Light disaapointment Altidore reckons that not enough people are taking the extraterrestrial like footage seriously.

The American, who now plays for Toronto in the MLS, told Vice Sports: “That’s crazy. I don’t think people are paying close attention now.

“The US government has just dropped such news on us and no one has noticed. That shows how crazy these times are.

“They just indicated that they see UFOs flying around, and because of the coronavirus nobody is interested. So I had to tweet that just so people would see it.”

When the USA striker was asked if he believes in aliens, he responded: “I don’t know what to think. But those video images seem to confirm that there is something.

“Otherwise, all those fighter pilots wouldn’t have made those videos. It’s really, very clear, otherwise those images wouldn’t be there.”

Altidore arrived at the Stadium of Light for £9million from AZ Alkmaar in 2013

He managed just one goal in 42 Premier League games during his failed two year stint with Sunderland before being shipped out to MLS outfit Toronto.

The 30-year-old believes his move to Sunderland wasn’t right from the offset and admitted the decision to join the English club was because of the cash.

He added: “It didn’t feel right. The timing was not right,

“Sunderland was not the best club I had spoken to, I had also spoken to other major clubs. But Sunderland was concrete.

“My agents and my father thought about finances. With the contract at Sunderland, I was able to secure my future, guaranteed.”

Altidore has won the MLS Cup with Toronto and reached the finals twice.
