Spurs have just £10MILLION to spend on Harry Kane stand-in with Mourinho set to miss out on Piatek and Willian Jose

TOTTENHAM are desperate to land a new striker by Friday — but chairman Daniel Levy has set a £10million limit.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, who has agreed a £27m deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn, is hoping to see a stand-in for crocked Harry Kane arrive this window.

But chairman Levy, who yesterday turned Giovani Lo Celso’s loan from Real Betis into a permanent £27m deal, is infuriating other clubs by not getting anywhere near their asking fees.

Levy only wanted to pay Milan £10m for Krzysztof Piatek even though they rate him at three times that figure.

And he was only willing to shell out the same amount for Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose, even though he is available for £21m.

Spurs are also looking at Benfica’s £15m- rated Haris Seferovic.

Bergwijn, 22, arrived in London yesterday to finalise his move. He is poised to sign a 5½-year deal worth £90,000 a week.

His playing style is said to be a cross of Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen, who finally joined Inter Milan yesterday.

Bergwijn, renowned for his electric turn of pace, has scored just five league goals in 16 games for PSV  this season. But it is his record of setting up goals which is far more impressive.

Since the start of the 2017-18 campaign, Bergwijn has been involved in 56 goals, with 29 of those assists.

He impressed for PSV when Spurs beat them 2-1 in the group stage of the Champions League last season.

The Amsterdam-born ace has continued  to star for the Dutch giants this season, averaging a goal or an assist every 89 minutes.

Tottenham hope that kind of form will not only help them find the net while Kane recovers from his injury but also when he returns.

Bergwijn started as a kid in Ajax’s famous academy before PSV pulled off a coup by snatching him from right under their noses in 2011 when he was still 14.

Leicester and Sevilla were both linked  with him  last summer.
