Southampton sign Kyle Walker-Peters on loan transfer for rest of season from Tottenham

SOUTHAMPTON have signed Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters on loan for the rest of the season.

The former England Under-21s star has made just three Premier League starts this term – with the last coming against Newcastle in August.

His only appearance under new boss Jose Mourinho was in the 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich in the Champions League last month.

The Enfield-born defender, 22, has been at Tottenham since he was eight but has found his route to the first team blocked by Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and now Serge Aurier.

In all, he has played 24 games for the North Londoners, scoring once.

Mourinho wants KWP to go out and get more first-team experience.

But it is not clear whether he sees him as part of his long-term plans.

Crystal Palace asked about signing Walker-Peters last summer as a replacement for Manchester United recruit Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

And it was thought the Eagles could make another bid in this month’s transfer window.

But Southampton have managed to tie up a loan for the full-back, who can also operate on the left.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen to strengthen his squad amid an astonishing rise up the table from the drop zone to ninth.
