SOUTHAMPTON are looking to see off Sheffield United and Brighton in the fight to sign Almeria striker Darwin Nunez.
It is understood the Saints have lodged a £10million bid for the 21-year-old Uruguay international.

But Almeria are waiting to see if they receive a higher offer from the other interested Premier League clubs.
The Spanish second division side are resigned to selling last season’s 16-goal top scorer after missing out in the promotion play-offs.
They paid Penarol £4.5m for Nunez last year and are looking to make a major profit on the exciting youngster, who scored on his senior international debut last October.
Southampton have already splashed £10.9m to complete the signing of Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisa.
Now they want Nunez to challenge Danny Ings and Che Adams up front, with the club ready to listen to offers for Michael Obafemi.
And if he does choose the Saints it will be a major blow to Brighton, who are keen to ease the burden on their 2019-20 leading scorer Neal Maupay.
The Seagulls could rake in more than enough to spend big on a frontman if they sell in-demand centre-back Ben White.
Leeds hoped to persuade Brighton to let them buy last season’s loan sensation for £35m – but now every top-six Premier League club has made contact with the Seagulls about the 22-year-old.
Albion now value the Poole-born star at £50m.
