SKY SPORTS have issued an apology to Rangers, Celtic and Hoops fans over the translation of their interview with Alfredo Morelos.
The Light Blues striker’s sit-down with the network was broadcast on TV and social media earlier this week.
Rangers star Alfredo Morelos spoke to Sky Sports
During the interview, he was quoted as saying he was targeted with racist abuse by Celtic fans during December’s Old Firm clash.
However, Sky Sports later pulled the footage from all of their platforms after the Hoops claimed it was wrongly translated.
Parkhead chiefs slammed the “inconsistencies” with regards to what Morelos was quoted as saying compared to what he actually said.
SunSport also exclusively told you that Sky Sports could face an Ofcom investigation over the debacle after receiving 29 complaints about the interview.
Now, Sky Sports have issued an apology to both Rangers and Celtic, as well as Morelos, over the translation of the interview with the Colombian international.
And they made it clear that he never alleged at any point that Hoops supporters racially abused him.
A statement on their website read: “We have identified inaccuracies in the translation of Sky Sports News’ interview with Alfredo Morelos.
“We apologise to both Celtic and Rangers football clubs as well as Alfredo Morelos for the issues caused by these errors.
“After numerous steps undertaken by Sky to verify the interview thoroughly we can be clear that at no point did Morelos allege that any racial abuse was directed at him by Celtic supporters in the interview.
“We apologise to the supporters of Celtic Football Club for this serious error.
“We are reviewing our procedures for translated interviews to ensure this does not occur in future.”
Sky Sports also released a full transcript of their interview with Morelos, complete with a “professionally verified translation.”
