ROBERTO FIRMINO has given his endorsement to Liverpool’s potential move for Philippe Coutinho – by “liking” a post about his potential return on social media.
Coutinho, 28, quit Liverpool to pursue his dream of playing for Barcelona in a staggering £142million move in January 2018.
Firmino appears to be excited at the prospect of being reunited with Coutinho
But things have gone south for the “Little Magician” at the Nou Camp, with reports linking him with a move back to Anfield.
Coutinho struggled for game-time and form at Barca and was eventually shipped off on loan to Bayern Munich for the season.
The German giants have already revealed they won’t be making his move permanent – with Barcelona actively looking to sell him this summer.
Chelsea and Newcastle are amongst the clubs itching to bring him back to the Premier League.
But Coutinho is said to be willing to take a hefty pay-cut to return to Anfield – where he went from relative unknown to world superstar.
And fellow Brazilian Firmino, 28, is clearly excited at the prospect of teaming up with his old pal once again after spending three years playing in front of the Kop together.
On Sunday, a Liverpool fan page posted the rumour Coutinho had sent a “personal plea” to Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to sign him.
Firmino was one of nearly 9,000 fans to like the post, suggesting he’s more than happy to welcome Coutinho back to Anfield.
In January 2018, fans feared their best run of form in decades would come to a grinding halt after selling best player Coutinho to Barcelona, joining another former Reds star, Luis Suarez.
But Klopp and the Liverpool board invested the £142m wisely, including the star buys of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
While the Reds were always fearsome in attack, finally boosting the defensive ranks has seen them reach back-to-back Champions League finals, winning the 2019 edition.
And having racked up a staggering 97 points last season – and still missing out on the title, Liverpool are set to win it this year.
With the season restarting, Liverpool still 25 points ahead of nearest-rivals Manchester City, needing a maximum of two wins from their final nine games to secure their first top-flight title in 30 years.
Should Coutinho come back, he wouldn’t be the first name on the team sheet like he once was, but he seems happy to be a part of their all-conquering squad.
And Firmino seems pretty happy about that prospect, too…
