January is notoriously difficult to land big-name signings but Ferdinand believes the right offer for one certain Paris Saint-Germain star will transform United’s attack.
Edinson Cavani has found first-team football hard to come by this season having made just four league starts.
The Uruguayan has lost his place in the side to Argentine Mauro Icardi following his summer arrival from Inter Milan.
United failed to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer and now Ferdinand believes the club should go all-out to land the frontman.
Taking to Twitter, he said: “Just thinking… I would 100 per cent go & get Edinson Cavani.
“Huge experience, goalscorer, work ethic and great pro who the younger players in the squad would learn a lot from!”
United’s chances of signing Cavani are boosted by the fact his contract is expiring at the end of the season.
Answering a question online as to who he wants in at the club, Ferdinand also revealed he wants United to bolster their defence with the signing of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
They would face competition for the £100million-rated defender from rivals Chelsea and Tottenham who are both keen admirers.
Koulibaly’s team-mate Fabian Ruiz was picked as an option to fill the void in midfield.
The 23-year-old has been an important figure for the Italian side with 15 league appearances and can play in a defensive or more advanced position in the middle of the park.
Ferdinand also named the unknown Agustin Almendra as a wildcard option.
