Real Madrid set to end Martin Odegaard’s two-year Sociedad loan transfer early as Zidane makes last-minute U-turn

REAL MADRID are reportedly set to end Martin Odegaard’s two-year loan spell with Real Sociedad early.

The Norwegian midfielder had a superb season with the San Sebastian-based outfit, helping them to a sixth-placed finish in LaLiga.

He even scored in a 4-3 victory against his employers – and this has seemingly persuaded Zinedine Zidane to bring him back to the Bernabeu.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the player was all set to continue into a second season with Sociedad.

But at the last minute Zidane decided he wants to have Odegaard “by his side” next season and has assured him he will have a chance to fight for a first-team spot.

But Odegaard will have to recover from a knee injury picked up during the close of the season before he steps up his training.

MADRID DREAMS

Marca reports that “the player feels experienced, excited and ready to assert himself in Real Madrid’s dressing room”.

The 21-year-old has “felt Real Madrid’s support throughout” his loan spell with Sociedad.

And while he “has nothing but words of gratitude for Real Sociedad” Odegaard was clear a return to Real Madrid was his dream.

Odegaard joined Real Madrid from Stromsgodset in 2015, spurning interest from a host of top European clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United and City and Bayern Munich.

He became the youngest debutant in the history of the club at 16 years and 157 days old when he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in a 7-3 home win against Getafe in May 2015.

But that is his only appearance in LaLiga having played mainly for the B side. He has also featured twice in Copa Del Rey games.

Last season for Sociedad Odegaard featured 36 times in all competitions, scoring seven goals along the way.
