Real Madrid plot for THIRD Galacticos era with huge transfers for Mbappe and Haaland to follow Cristiano Ronaldo and Co

REAL MADRID are eyeing up a plot for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe as Florentino Perez looks to create a third Galacticos era.

The Bernabeu side have made French World Cup-winner Mbappe their No1 transfer target while Norwegian Haaland is also high on their wish list.

But they know they will need to splash the cash in order to land the pair who could form arguable the deadliest front lines in the world and spearhead the next generation of world beaters, as reported by Marca.

The first wave of Galactico signings including Ronaldo, David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane 20 years ago.

The second saw Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale all join for huge sums.

Now a third spree is on the cards but Real will not find it easy.

Mbappe’s current side Paris Saint-Germain are determined to keep hold of their prized asset for as long as possible.

He is under contract until 2022 and reports this weekend suggested the French side will refuse to sell Mbappe to Real Madrid, regardless of the the offer they receive, and would rather make him sit out his contract on the bench and be released for free.

Real Madrid boss Zidane – Mbappe’s childhood idol – started the feud by stating the 21-year-old dreams of playing for Los Blancos.

And the LaLiga side are confident the PSG talisman will reject any new contract offers to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes.

Although Real Madrid might be forced to wait until 2022 to land Mbappe, they could get Haaland earlier than that.

Borussia Dortmund signed him from Red Bull Salzburg for just £17million in January and he continued his hot streak with 12 goals in his first 11 games for his new side.

He rejected the likes of Madrid and Manchester United in favour of advancing his career in the Bundesliga.

But Real Madrid have not been put off and are set to go back in for Haaland, 19, especially with his £63m release clause available to be triggered from next year.

Zidane already has some of the world’s best young talents at his disposal as he looks to build another all-conquering Real side.

Brazilian teenagers Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo have been in fine form in attack this season as has Fede Valverde in midfield.

There are also high hopes for the likes of Brahim Diaz as well as some youngsters out on loan including Martin Odegaard.

Their collective progression to the first team, as well as the keynote signings of Haaland and Mbappe, would undoubtedly make Real Madrid’s new-look side a force to be reckoned with.

And it would also coincide with the completion of the redevelopment of the Bernabeu.

The £500m project, featuring a retractable roof and a 360-degree screen, is officially set to be all done by October 2022.

Real Madrid’s original Galacticos featured the likes of Zidane, Raul, Ronaldo, Beckham, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo and Iker Casillas.

But as that side broke apart when president Perez was replaced by Ramon Calderon in 2006.

Three years later, though, he returned to the hot seat and embarked on another spending spree which included the signings of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria.

Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez followed them through the doors.

That new spending brought with it new dominance in the Champions League.

After 12 years without lifting the famous ‘Big Ears’ trophy, Madrid went on to win it four times between 2014 and 2019, including an hat-trick of wins in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

But with the likes of Ronaldo and Alonso moving on and Benzema, Ramos, Bale, Modric and Rodriguez all expected to follow suit over the coming couple of years, Zidane and Perez know they need to be ready with the next generation of trophy-hungry stars.
