He still has two-and-a-half years left to run on his contract in the French capital and PSG are determined to get at least another year out of him.
But according to respected French journalist Julien Laurens of ESPN, Real Madrid are preparing to make a move.
Mbappe is now considered the most valuable player in world football with 125 career goals notched up already despite turning 21 in December.
According to CIES Football Observatory, the Frenchman is worth £226.2million – but any offer for him is going to need to be considerably more than that, with reports that Real will bid £257m.
That would smash the current world record of £198m PSG paid for Mbappe’s team-mate Neymar.
However, Brazilian midfielder Fabinho – who played with Mbappe at Monaco – is desperate for the striker to join him at Liverpool instead.
But Real Madrid are desperate to get Mbappe in sooner rather than later.
With compatriot Zinedine Zidane in charge, Los Blancos will no doubt use him to try and lure their target in.
Mbappe has racked up 20 goals in 21 competitive matches this season as he looks to add to his impressive trophy haul.
By the age of 20, he had won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles, the Couple de France, the Coupe de la Ligue and the World Cup.
And on an individual level, he has picked up three Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year crowns in a row, the Ligue 1 Player of the Year last season, the Golden Boy award, the Kopa Trophy, Best Young Player at the World Cup and the Ligue 1 Golden Boot.
