NEWCASTLE UNITED have enquired about Ademola Lookman as they seek to bring the forward back to the Premier League.
The former Everton starlet left for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last summer in a deal worth £22.5million.
Former Everton striker Ademola Lookman could return to the Premier League with Newcastle
Lookman, 22, moved to Germany after growing frustrated at a lack of Goodison game time – but has suffered a similar fate at Leipzig.
The England Under-21s star signed a four-year deal lasting until summer 2024 but has only made three league appearances this season.
A move away is now on the cards with Leipzig willing to listen to offers for a player they signed just six months ago.
Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has proposed a loan deal as he looks to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window and the move could become permanent in the summer.
Bruce has had horrid luck with injuries since arriving at St James’ Park and recently saw four of his players go off injured against Leicester City.
The Manchester United legend paid the price for his depleted squad over the busy festive period as his side lost all three of their Premier League games between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Forwards Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll are just returning to training after injuries while winger Allan Saint-Maximin unlikely to feature until the back end of the month because of a hamstring problem.
Injuries are not the only problem Bruce has up front, as his club-record signing Joelinton has scored only one goal in 22 appearances since making a £40m move to Tyneside from Hoffenheim.
Boss Bruce thinks the pressure of such a hefty price tag may be affecting the Brazilian forward’s form.
He said: “To play for Newcastle United is a heavy load, full stop.
“There is an expectation on you and it dawns on you very quickly.
“And when you are the No9 and the price-tag, then that bears on him.”
Bruce has turned to the transfer market to bolster his options up front and Lookman could provide some much needed depth to the resources he has available.
Newcastle are also rumoured to be in talks with Galatasaray over a potential transfer for ex-Liverpool forward Ryan Babel.
They also have one eye on Chelsea outcast Olivier Giroud but ex-Stamford Bridge boss Antonio Conte’s new side Inter Milan are also thought to be interested in the Frenchman.
