Lazaro, 23, moved from Hertha Berlin last summer for £20million but has started just three league games for Antonio Conte’s side.
And Magpies boss Steve Bruce dropped a hint that the club are working on a deal to bring him to the North-East.
Asked about Lazaro at his press conference this morning, he said: “It would be wrong to talk about individuals. I don’t want to comment on that just yet.”
West Ham have also been linked with Lazaro, who can play either as a winger or wing-back.
Newcastle are yet to sign anyone in the transfer window but a wide-man is top of Bruce’s priority list.
He held a transfer summit with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley on Wednesday and described the talks as “very positive.”
Bruce said: “It went very well. We showed him what we are trying to do and he was fully supportive.
“The funds are available if we need them, that’s always been the case. We have one or two targets in mind but, if they don’t come off, I’m not going to jump into the window – they have to improve us.
“Mike was interested in who we were looking at, which areas, what type of player. He took a genuine interest and it was a good meeting.
“Let’s see if we can pull those signings off, we hope we can and we are doing everything possible.”
