Mourinho blasts international football’s safety in sarcastic rant after stars test positive for coronavirus AFTER games

JOSE MOURINHO has blasted international football’s safety procedures in a sarcastic rant on Instagram.

The Spurs boss went online to deliver a stunning message to those in charge of health protocols after some players tested positive for coronavirus having just taken part in a match.

New Tottenham right-back Matt Doherty was today ruled out of games against Manchester City and Chelsea after contracting Covid-19.

His test result came just hours after he played in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to Wales yesterday, with team-mate James McLean also testing positive.

Spurs duo Gareth Bale, Ben Davies and Joe Rodon all lined up for Wales, which will have put them at risk of contracting coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Alan Browne tested positive last week after he played in Ireland’s defeat to England at Wembley.

Tottenham’s Harry Winks started the game, while Harry Kane and Eric Dier were unused subs.

Doherty now joins Steven Bergwijn, Tanguy Ndombele, Erik Lamela and Japhet Tanganga on Spurs’ injury list.

And there could be fears over more potential coronavirus infections following the international break.

Mourinho has now taken to Instagram to deliver his verdict on the situation, making it clear that he is not impressed with how players have been looked after.

He wrote: “Amazing week of football. Great emotions in the national team matches, superb friendlies and total safety.

“Covid test results after matches been played, randomers running on the pitch while team sessions are taking place and much more.

“After another training session with only six players, it is now time to take care of myself.”

Mourinho’s comments come after SunSport exclusively revealed England boss Gareth Southgate secretly battled coronavirus last month with players none the wiser.

After Sunday’s 2-0 Nations League defeat to Belgium, former Spurs hero Mido believes the FA should sack Southgate and replace him with the Special One.

Mido tweeted: “England needs a proper manager. They are wasting their time with Southgate.

“It’s true he always says the right things to the media and probably that’s why he kept his job for so long but believe me he is stuttering every time things go wrong at half-time. Players feel his fear.

“England have got some top talents in their side, they need a manager with strong character, someone who can get them to enjoy themselves and play with no fear.

“I’m sorry but Southgate is not the man to do that. If you are scared from losing a match you will always be scared and players can always feel it.

“My advice to the FA, go and get Mourinho as your head coach and appoint Southgate as the FA chairman.

“They are both perfect for the job. Get Southgate away from the players – as far as you can.”
