Mohamed Salah snubbed Real Madrid move to stay at Liverpool in 2018, claims ex-Egypt No2

MOHAMED SALAH snubbed a big-money move to Real Madrid in 2018, claims former Egypt assistant boss Hany Ramzy.

The Liverpool striker was offered a transfer to the Bernabeu just two months after the Reds’ Champions League Final loss to Los Blancos in Kiev two years ago.

But the Egyptian forward wanted to stay on Merseyside after his stunning season with Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Salah hit an astonishing 47 goals in 56 appearances that season, beating Spurs’ Harry Kane and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot.

He netted 11 goals in the Champions League to spark Liverpool’s run to the final.

And Real were desperate to get their hands on the goal machine after that season.

Ramzy, now head coach of the Egypt Under-21 side, claims the LaLiga giants made a “really good offer” to try and tempt the African into switching to Spain.

But Salah decided to stay in England, with Klopp trying to build a title-winning team.

Ramzy told OnTime Sports that he spoke to Salah about the offer during a training camp in Switzerland when ex-Argentina manager Hector Cuper was boss of the Egypt national team.

He said: “I was talking to Salah and he told me that Real Madrid had sent him an offer.

“The offer was really good, but Salah discussed it with me and Mr Cuper, and he decided to stay with Liverpool because he was comfortable there.”

Salah was badly injured in that 2018 Champions League final, which Liverpool lost 3-1, but he returned to spark Reds’ run to win the trophy the following season against Spurs.

He has also been on fire in the Premier League this season, moving Klopp’s men to just two wins from winning the trophy for the first time in the club’s history, prior to the coronavirus outbreak.
