And while De Ligt looked in high spirits after his operation to stabilise his shoulder, the Serie A champions have confirmed he could be out of action until November.
De Ligt posted a snap of himself in his hospital bed on Instagram – surrounded by birthday bunting.
He captioned the post: “Thank you for all the support and birthday wishes.
“The surgery went well.
“Big thanks to the amazing doctors and the medical team who helped me!
“Time to recover.”
‘COMPLETE SUCCESS’
After his surgery, Juventus confirmed the good news that the surgery was a “complete success”, in a boost to new boss Andrea Pirlo – but did add he could spend a substantial time on the sidelines.
A club statement read: “Matthijs de Ligt underwent stabilisation surgery on his right shoulder, at the UPMC Salvator Mundi clinic in Rome.
“The operation was a complete success.
“The estimated recovery time is approximately three months.”

De Ligt played a total of 39 matches in all competitions in 2019-20 – often while visibly in pain – and bounced back from a rocky start to life in Italy to become a mainstay of the team.
And after Juve crashed out of the Champions League to Lyon, De Ligt opted to undergo surgery.
De Ligt had been rested for the final two Serie A games – losses at the hands of Cagliari and Roma.
