Man Utd trigger two-year contract option keep Eric Bailly until end of 2022 season

Bailly had a contract expiring at the end of the season but the club have been keen to keep him at Old Trafford despite being plagued with injuries, write ESPN.

The 25-year-old has yet to feature this season as he battles back from a horrific knee problem which he suffered against Spurs in pre-season.

The £80,000-a-week star has played just 50 times for United in over three years after an injury-plagued spell at Old Trafford.

Bailly, who joined from Villarreal in 2016 for £27m, recently stepped up his recovery by featuring for the U23s last week.

He lasted an hour before being subbed and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be keen not to rush him back into action although admitted he could make the squad to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Solskjaer said: “He’s very close, he might be back for the weekend.

“We’ve got a game arranged today with the reserves, so he’ll play that one.

“Hopefully he’ll get 90 minutes, because he didn’t feel any after-effects from the game on Friday so he might be ready for Liverpool.”
