Man Utd trigger Paul Pogba one-year contract extension just week after midfielder reveals Real Madrid transfer ‘dream’

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the club have triggered the one-year extension in Paul Pogba’s contract.

His deal was up at the end of this season with no announcement that the club had taken up the opportunity to extend it by a further year.

Just last week the Frenchman once again flirted with Real Madrid, who he said it would be a ‘dream’ to play for.

But Solskjaer said: “Paul’s our player, he’s going to be here for another two years and sure he’s focused on doing his best for us and we want to see the best from Paul and I’m sure in the next couple of years we’ll get the best out of him.”

Solskjaer is obviously looking for a response from his team after the 6-1 home defeat to Spurs last time out.

He said: “We need a response as we always do after we lose a game. You want to win the next one, we want to try and dominate the game.

“The result is very important, but we want to see positive body language and mindset.

“You don’t get anywhere being negative. We want to go out there, go for the win and see players who want to work for the points.”

The club’s move comes after Pogba’s comments about Real Madrid while speaking on international duty.

While he maintained he was focused on United, the midfielder otherwise did little to play down speculation of a transfer to the Bernabeu.

He told the press: “I am at Manchester. We know that this has been spoken about a lot and I have not [spoken about it].

“I heard a lot of noise that I was going to leave and I was going to leave to clubs left and right.

“Today, I am still at Manchester United and I am fighting to try to take the club even higher.

“We have all heard these things that have been said. What to respond?

“Yes, all footballers would like to play for Real Madrid. Maybe it is a dream. It is a dream for me, why not one day?

“As I have said, I am at Manchester United and I like my club.

“I am performing at Manchester United, I am enjoying myself and I want to do everything I can to get the club back to where it deserves to be.

“I am going to give my maximum, like my team-mates. I prefer to concentrate on football and on returning to fitness.”

Despite his wishes, reports say Madrid may swerve the 27-year-old in favour of other targets.
