MANCHESTER UNITED’S on-field slump has been mirrored in a stunning plunge in their financial power ranking.
According to the latest annual Soccerex Football Finance ranking, the Old Trafford side have fallen out of the top ten and down to 16th in the global charts.
Soccerex measure clubs by five criteria, including the value of their playing assets, cash in the bank, the value of facilities, potential owner investment and debt.
The study claims Man City have the most valuable squad in world football, with Pep Guardiola’s players worth a staggering £1.062billion.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United squad, by contrast, is said to be worth £625m.
That places the United squad below four of the rest of the Prem Big Six, with Liverpool’s runaway title leaders valued at £888m, Jose Mourinho’s Spurs said to be worth £816m, Chelsea’s players valued at £670m.
TOTAL SCORE
1) Paris Saint-Germain – 5.318
2) Man City – 5.197
3) Bayern Munich – 3.888
4) Spurs – 3.441
5) Real Madrid – 3.336
6) Arsenal – 3.150
7) Chelsea – 2.893
8) Liverpool – 2.616
9)Juventus – 2.195
10) Borussia Dortmund – 2.154
16) Man Utd – 1.743
United, who are said to have a net debt of £664m, are calculated to have a “Football Finance Index” of 1.743.
That compares to the City FFI score of 5.197, although the Etihad outfit, top of the chart last year, have now been overtaken by Qatari-owned PSG.
One surprise is the rise of Spurs, up to fourth and sandwiched between third-placed Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, with a score of 3.441.
Spurs’ new 62,000-capacity home and their impressive training headquarters at Enfield are valued at a top-ranked £914m although they have net debts assessed at £746m.
Tottenham’s £400m revenue in 2019 saw them leapfrog their two main London rivals and that was despite spending most of last season at Wembley, although the figures will put extra pressure on Daniel Levy to splash more cash this summer.
Arsenal’s players are rated as being worth £566m but their valuable London location and the relatively low net debt under the ownership of Stan Kroenke, lifts the Gunners into sixth, just ahead of Chelsea and eighth-placed Liverpool.
