Man Utd ratings: Embarrassing United woeful to a man as Pereira and Maguire have nights to forget in Burnley loss

MANCHESTER UNITED succumbed to one of the worst defeats in the six years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired as they got beaten at home to Burnley for the first time since 1962.

Chris Wood gave Burnley a first-half lead with a shinned shot from a flick-on, before Jay Rodriguez’s rocket doubled their lead.

SunSport’s Alex Terrell gives his verdict on the United team…

David De Gea 3

Knew what was coming from Burnley’s physical forwards.

But was caught napping when Rodriguez’s thunderbolt came in and rattled off the underside of the bar.

Little to do, other than pick the ball out of the net.

Aaron Wan Bissaka 6

Constantly an option on the right in attack and did well in defence.

The Englishman did not do much wrong at Old Trafford and certainly created more than United’s wingers or midfielders.

Phil Jones 3

Was at fault for the opening Burnley goal by barrelling over Chris Wood near the half-way line.

Got nowhere near Wood for the visitors’ second though, before he squared it to Rodriguez who smashed it at goal.

Harry Maguire 3

Wood got half a yard on the United captain to fire the Clarets ahead and the same when Rodriguez made it two.

The Englishman is good on the ball, but his defending has been poor in the last couple of games. Is he burned out?

Brandon Williams 4

Quiet evening for the teenager. He did not connect enough with Daniel James and the pair looked like they had never met.

Fred 5

On a par with the rest of the Brazilian’s season.

His build-up play is good but he can’t finish from the edge of the box, which is where the ball constantly fell to him.

Nemanja Matic 5

A limited, ageing, immobile player in a team that lacks inspiration.

Being asked to be Paul Pogba, which the Serbian simply isn’t.

Andreas Pereira 2

He’s not good enough now, he’s not been good enough all season and he will never be good enough.

Why does the Brazilian even get into the United squad, let alone start?

Juan Mata 4

Constantly wants the ball, but his favourite lofted pass did not come off much against a Brunley side who were all-too aware of his threat.

Daniel James 3

Playing on the left for once, his preferred side. But the Welshman is lacking confidence and has barely played with Brandon Williams.

An obvious lack of chemistry and stubborn Burnley defending did not give him much of a chance.

Anthony Martial 4

Should have given United the lead as he took too many touches inside the Burnley penalty area before Ben Mee slid in with a wonderful tackle.

Doesn’t do enough off the ball and constantly dropping deep, because he thinks he should be doing more.

But in honesty the delivery to him has been so poor, what can he do?
