MANCHESTER UNITED legend Roy Keane is second-favourite with the bookies to take over as Salford manager after Paul Scholes was named as caretaker boss on Monday.
The Irishman, 49, was spotted looking unimpressed in the stands at the club’s home clash with Tranmere at the weekend.
Keane and Solskjaer are second and third-favourites respectively for the Salford job
Keane watched on as the visitors scored twice in the last five minutes to secure a point, which led to Graham Alexander being sacked.
Scholes, 45, was part of the consortium to buy 50 per cent of the minnows back in 2014.
The Class of 92 venture, including David Beckham, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Phil Neville, has seen City rise from non-League obscurity to League Two, where they sit fifth in the table.
And now it is thought they may turn to their former Old Trafford team-mate Keane to take is Salford to the next level – after Scholes was installed as temporary boss.
The one-time midfield hardman hasn’t managed since 2011 after a tough two years at Ipswich.
Keane had spent two years at Sunderland prior to his spell in Suffolk.
But the ex-Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest assistant is 10/3 to be named Salford boss, with Paddy Power.
Former Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley is 5/2 favourite, with Sir Alex Ferguson a shock third-favourite at 14/1 to take over at the club part-owned by the Class of 92.
The Neville brothers, Ryan Giggs, Jamie Carragher and under-fire Man Utd chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are also in the running, with the latter a 50/1 longshot.
A Paddy Power spokesperson said: “It’s still early days, but our punters have been backing Keane to be the next Salford City manager.

“I’d imagine the Class of 92 would be too terrified to reject him if he applied.
“Or could it be a move for Ole, if things continue to go awry at Old Trafford?
“He wouldn’t have far to travel, at least.”
