Man Utd enter transfer race for wonderkid Alex Luna but 16-year-old must wait until 2022 to make move

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly joined the race to sign 16-year-old wonderkid Alex Luna – but must wait until 2022.

The Mirror reports the Red Devils are lining up a swoop for the Argentine starlet but he may not arrive at Old Trafford for nearly two years.

The youngster caught the attention of a number of big European clubs after bagging 16 goals for Atletico Rafaela in his homeland.

The season was curtailed by coronavirus but impressive dribbling and direct attacking have left the teenager high in demand.

His club claim they have already turned down SEVEN loan requests.

Next season he is scheduled to be promoted to Rafaela’s first team, who play in Argentina’s second tier.

And the move is said to have alerted some of the top South American sides.

United’s main rivals for his signature are AC Milan but other big names like Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester City and Champions League winners Bayern Munich are said to have monitored the player.

Even if Ed Woodward and Co can pull off a deal, it is likely Luna will stay in Argentina until the end of 2021.

So the first time he could pull on the famous red shirt of Manchester United is unlikely to be before January 2021.

Luna is viewed as a long-term project with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer staying coy on whether his side will make any more additions in this window.

The Norwegian declared his defence is good enough without reinforcements after they came in for heavy criticism.

Midfielder Donny van de Beek arrived for £39million but he is United’s only summer signing, leaving fans frustrated at a lack of action in the market.
