Man Utd boss Solskjaer tells Greenwood to forget Euros and concentrate on club form

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER wants Mason Greenwood to forget the Euros and concentrate on Manchester United.

Frontman Greenwood, 18, has hit the headlines this season with nine goals and a string of top-class performances.

With Harry Kane possibly out of the summer championships with a hamstring injury, England chief Gareth Southgate will be looking for an extra striker.

And that has brought Greenwood on to the radar. Yet United gaffer Solskjaer said: “I think Mason will have a top and long career.

“But let the boy settle in now first before we talk about England and Euros.

“His focus has to be on playing more for us, improving — and when he plays more for us that will happen by itself.

“He’s just been picked for England Under-21s so he’s focusing on his football.”

Greenwood is part of a three-pronged United attack that is starting to put fear into Premier League defences.

Marcus Rashford is enjoying his best season so far with 19 goals and Anthony Martial is back on song after injury and took his tally to 11 with another strike against Norwich.

Indeed, all three scored in that 4-0 win with Rashford getting a pair on his 200th appearance for the club.

Solskjaer said: “They’re working hard to improve their game, they’ve all done well.

“Mason’s in his first season, so to have nine goals is fantastic. Marcus is growing and improving all the time and Anthony’s missed eight weeks. I’m impressed by them.”

Tonight’s FA Cup replay is United’s 14th game in 46 days.

But Solskjaer draws on his experience of the Treble season of 1998-99 to point out how games can lift you, as long as you keep winning.

He said: “Results give you energy. One good result and performance like Norwich and they feel good about themselves.

“Bad results also have to be used as a motivation, as in ‘we’re not there yet, we need to keep improving’.

“When I was playing I felt the team got rhythm of match-rest-match-rest. Players like Roy Keane, Scholesy and Gary Neville only seemed to improve.”
