Curtis Jones, 18, scored the winner that night in what was a Reds team with an average of 22.34.
Solskjaer suggested people had forgotten that his own side – who he said are a year younger on average than the Liverpool team – are achieving at a young age too.
Quizzed about United’s identity and inconsistency, Solskjaer said: “That’s what happens when you have a young team.
“Everyone raves about the FA Cup team that Liverpool beat Everton with.
“Our league team is a year younger on average so it’s got to be ups and downs.
“Gradually we’ll get these experiences from the weekend before against City – they’ll help these boys.
“They can’t improve if they don’t get these experiences.”
But asked about signing Bruno Fernandes – or any other players – in this window, Solskjaer was tight lipped.
United fans went into overdrive earlier today when a mystery man was spotted being driven into Carrington.
Yet Ole said: “I can’t talk about individuals that are playing for other clubs but I’ve got to say I do have the backing to do something if the right thing comes up in this transfer window.
“The owners and Ed [Woodward] know what we’re building towards and they are very supportive.”
