Waiting in the wings are Serie A champions Juve, who are set to battle Real Madrid to complete a £150million deal in the summer.
But the difficulty of dealing with United is forcing the Old Lady to formulate a plan B.
Tuttosport report that Spanish ace Thiago is one option, particularly as his Bayern contract expires at the end of next season.
Barring an unexpected and expensive renewal for the German giants, they are said to be considering selling now to cash in on the playmaker.
Thiago is nonetheless a major part of the Munich side leading Bundesliga by a single point over RB Leipzig.
With 27 appearances in all competitions, the 28-year-old is in line to face Chelsea when his team travels to West London for a Champions League encounter next week.
Juve meanwhile head to Lyon on February 26 a midfielder light after the sale of Emre Can.
The midfielder’s loan exit to Borussia Dortmund in January was confirmed as a permanent switch on Wednesday after his impressive start back in his homeland.
Reports suggested Juve made a play to sign Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona to bolster their midfield late on in the market but that move failed to come off.
Thus they are strongly expected to prioritise a central midfield purchase once this campaign ends.
