Man Utd and Liverpool ‘in transfer fight’ for Isak Bergmann Johannesson, 17, as Icelandic ace stars for IFK Norrkoping

MANCHESTER UNITED and Liverpool are reportedly in a race to sign Icelandic whizkid Isak Bergmann Johannesson.

The right winger, 17, has won rave reviews this season with Swedish top-flight club IFK Norrkoping.

He is the son of Joey Gudjonsson – the ex-Aston Villa, Wolves, Leicester, Burnley and Huddersfield midfielder – and was born in Sutton Coldfield.

Liverpool scout Mads Jorgensen checked on the teenager in Norrkoping’s 2-2 draw with AIK on Monday, according to Expressen.

And United, Juventus and other top European clubs are said to have previously been on Johannesson’s trail.

Norrkoping chief scout Stig Torbjornsen said: “There has been a lot of interest in Bergmann Johannesson. It’s no secret that clubs are chasing him.

“Liverpool are one of the clubs, and there are ten others as well. The best clubs in Europe have been here for him.

“There is interest when such a young guy plays so well for so long. He has performed for his national Under-21 team.

“It’s hard to say if we can keep him in January. A club with a lot of money could come along now or in six months.

“Norrkoping have a lot of money and don’t need to sell, and Isak has a sensible agent and family.

“When something comes up that is good for all parties, something will happen.”

Johannesson has made 27 appearances and scored four goals this season to inspire his club to second in the Allsvenskan league.

He has won 23 caps for Iceland’s junior sides, scoring 11 times.
