Man City star David Silva once snubbed the King of Spain… as he was on two-day booze up

DAVID SILVA has revealed how he once missed a reception with the King of Spain – as he was out on a two-day booze-up.

The Manchester City legend was part of the Spain team who ended a 44-year wait for a major international trophy by winning Euro 2008.

And in a new documentary for City +, he reveals he made the most of it – a little bit TOO much.

The veteran playmaker said: “The celebrations were fantastic because it was the first trophy, we had a drink or two.

“I didn’t sleep or eat in two days…and I missed the reception with the king back in Spain!”

City boss Pep Guardiola also reveals in the documentary ‘Made in Gran Canaria’ that he regrets the fact he did not get the chance to work with Silva earlier.

He wanted to sign the former Valencia man while he was in charge of Barcelona – but had to wait until he arrived at City in 2016.

The pair will have had four years together by the time Silva goes at the end of the season – and Pep is grateful he got the chance to train him.

Guardiola said: “I just want to congratulate and thank him. When I was at Barcelona I’d say: “How good is this guy? I’d love to have him here”.

“And at the end of his career, we’ve been together. And it’s been really good.

“What he has achieved being part of this unique and one-in-a-lifetime generation and of Spanish footballers that won the World Cup and two Euros.

“I’d only say that he has to be proud for all that he has achieved in football.

“He will be always remembered as one of the biggest, biggest, biggest players ever. For sure, David is one of the top five players in the club’s history.”

There are also tributes from his former Spain team-mates with Barca legend Xavi calling him a ‘spectacular footballer’.

He said: “David Silva is one of the most talented players Spain has ever produced, without a shadow of a doubt.”

David Villa – who played with him for both Valencia and Spain – added: “He’s the kind of player that with the ball at his feet, a striker knows the killer pass could come at any second.

“A terrifying talent for a striker like myself to have behind them.

“We showed the world that you can win with technique in midfield, you don’t need physical players. With Xavi, Iniesta and Silva we went through that generational change.

“He lifts everyone’s performance on the pitch, and that’s a huge talent to have.”
