City’s defence was horribly exposed in the 5-2 home defeat by Leicester on Saturday.
And it appears Guardiola is losing faith in Benjamin Mendy, whom he signed for £52m in 2017.
According to the Daily Mail, the Spaniard wants Bayern Munich’s David Alaba or Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico to help solve the issues on the left.
Alaba, 28, looks braced to leave the Allianz with just a year left on his current deal.
He joined Munich from Austria Vienna in 2008 when he was just 16.
But his mammoth £400,000-a-week wage demands mean he could be looking for a new club with Bayern refusing to cave in.
Guardiola worked with Alaba during his time as Bayern boss and the player would be eager to reunite with his old manager.
City will also look into Tagliafico’s availability.

SunSport exclusively revealed how neighbours Manchester United were eyeing up a summer deal for the 28-year-old.
Ajax would be open to cashing in for around £23m as he has just two years left on his contract.
Following Dias’ arrival, Guardiola has spent around a staggering £450m on defensive signings at Man City.
