Leeds eyeing up Teun Koopmeiners transfer in bid to bolster midfield ranks with move for ex-Everton target

LEEDS are rumoured to be after AZ Alkmaar ace Teun Koopmeiners with Marco Bielsa looking to boost his midfield options.

The Premier League new boys are targeting the Netherlands Under-21 star following an injury to Pablo Hernandez.

And the Elland Road club, who are sixth in the league, are also considering a bid for highly-rated Norwich playmaker Todd Cantwell.

Koopmeiners, 22, has been a trusted starter for Alkmaar over the past three seasons.

Last term the midfielder, who is an ex-Everton target, made 25 starts for the club who finished 13th in the Netherlands top division.

The Daily Telegraph claim Koopmeiners’ price tag could exceed £10million with the starlet on the fringes of the Dutch national squad.

And Leeds boss Bielsa is thought to be eager to bolster his midfield after being forced to play striker Rodrigo in a deeper position last weekend.

The club’s record-signing, 29, moved into midfield after Hernandez was forced off by a groin problem ahead of the team’s 4-3 win against Fulham.

Leeds have so far been reinforcing their defence with Robin Koch added to their squad along with ex-Real Sociedad player Diego Llorente.

But reports claim Koopmeiners and Cantwell are at the top of Bielsa’s attacking midfielder shopping list.

And it’s thought the club have tabled a £15million bid for the Carrow Road ace, 22, after being priced out of a move for Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul.

The Elland Road outfit also delved into the Dutch market with a £1.3million move for Crysencio Summerville.

The winger, who is 18, signed a £3million deal earlier this month.
