WE saw it on so many occasions last season, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea dominating possession but failing to win.
The problems largely stemmed from either their leaky defence, conceding a silly goal via a lack of organisation or an individual error – or simply the Blues wasting easy chances to score and put the game to bed.

Their 3-1 win over Leeds United to put them back on top of the Premier League had a similar feel.
Leeds went 1-0 up early in the first half and Chelsea had to turn the scoreline on its head.
This season Chelsea fans are full of a lot more confidence, and I had a deep feeling in the back of my mind that although we had gone 1-0 down, we would still win this game.

Chelsea made it hard though, and once again we saw shades of last season with the Blues having good possession and many chances to finish their opponents off.
But they neglected to do so, missing a number of clear opportunities.
This is where concerns would have kicked in from last season.
We would have known exactly what this type of game would have meant and we knew we would be lucky to be leaving this type of match even with a point.
But the Chelsea of this season are a different breed, they are not only full of quality, they are full of confidence and belief in their own ability.
Heads didn’t drop. No, they only rose up and ground out the win because they knew they needed to.
This season, they have that winning mentality whatever it takes.

It was edgy at the end, yet even then I had no doubts that Chelsea would not win this game.
And Christian Pulisic scored a third on a counter attack to prove me more than right
Chelsea are a different grain, Leeds could have easily won this match if it was last term.
But unfortunately for them it is a new dawn, a new era, season, for a strong Chelsea team who have the quality and the mentality to succeed.
You could tell that Lampard had a stern chat with the players at half time to remind them of this.
And they came out firing in the second half and were fully deserving of the three points.
