Kylian Mbappe shows his class by wanting to share Ligue 1 Golden Boot after being named winner despite tie on 18 goals

FRENCH superstar Kylian Mbappe has shown a touch of class by offering to share his Ligue 1 Golden Boot.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward won the award after bagging 18 goals before the season in France was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder also found the net 18 times in the curtailed 2019/20 season.

However, on Thursday it was decided that French World Cup winner Mbappe would receive the award by virtue of having scored more goals from open play.

Former Sevilla ace Ben Yedder struck three times from the penalty spot and was cruelly robbed of a share of the spoils.

Mbappe, 21, took to Twitter to thank his supporters for their well wishes but showed his class by recognising the efforts of his international colleague.

He tweeted: “Thank you for all your messages. I think that Wissam also deserves a trophy, like the Premier League did last season, to reward his year.”

Last year Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shared the English gong for most goals in the top-flight with Liverpool’s African duo Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Mbappe followed up his 33 goals last season by finishing on top of the pile this time around, albeit in strange circumstances for multiple reasons.

Ben Yedder did not seem to be too upset at missing out on the award on a technicality and replied to his compatriot on the social media site.

He tweeted: “Thank you bro, congratulations to you… We can alternate if you want.”

Covid-19 may have brought French football to a premature close – with no play since March – but Mbappe still had plenty to celebrate after his PSG side were handed the title courtesy of their 12 point lead over Marseille.
