He was involved in more goals than any other player in the top-flight with 33.

De Bruyne trumped Liverpool trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane to the award.

Southampton ace Danny Ings, Leicester forward Jamie Vardy and Burnley’s Nick Pope also made the shortlist.

The winner was decided by a public vote combined with those of the 20 Premier League captains and a number of football experts.

De Bruyne was announced as the winner just hours after City crashed out of the Champions League.

De Bruyne was the only player from City’s squad to be nominated for the prize this season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp won the award for Premier League Manager of the Season after he guided Liverpool to the title.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-min took home the award for Premier League Goal of the Season for his incredible solo run for Tottenham.
