Jose Mourinho deserves 2017/18 Premier League title after guiding Man Utd to second amid City cheat storm, say fans

JOSE MOURINHO deserves the 2017/18 Premier League title, believe optimistic Manchester United fans.

The Red Devils finished second in that season on 81 points, 19 behind champions Manchester City who were dubbed the Centurions for their record points haul.

But the Etihad club were rocked on Friday by a two-year ban from the Champions League and a £25million ban from Uefa for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

It is highly unlikely that the Premier League will take further action against City, despite suggestions of a points deduction or even expulsion to League Two.

However, it does give Manchester United more hope of qualifying for the Champions League next season with a fifth-placed finish in the Prem enough to return to Europe’s top table.

A selection of United supporters, however, were getting excited by the prospect of extreme repercussions for Pep Guardiola’s side.

They think City’s rule-breaking antics should mean they are stripped of their recent titles – handing the 2017/18 crown across town over to Old Trafford and landing Mourinho a fourth Prem winner’s medal.

Latest stories on Man City’s Champions League ban

One wrote: “Pep needed to break FFP rules to beat a team with a back 4 of Valencia, Smalling, Jones and Young to the title. Jose Mourinho is the best manager in the history of football and it’s not even close. Hope this helps.”

Another said: “If Man City EPL title being taken away, Jose actually win the league with the deadwood Man Utd team.”

A third tweeted: “Imagine stripping City of their PL titles also, then we’d have Jose winning the title with Man Utd in 17/18… think of the memes.”

And a final user added: “Manchester City banned by FFP?? This man deserves his PL title with United for the 2017/18 season.”

But when it was pointed out that by the same method, Liverpool would have landed the title last season, United fans were suddenly less willing to be some generous.

Mourinho was sacked in December 2018 and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

After a year out of work, the Special One returned to management towards the end of last year by taking over from Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

And the managerial merry-go-round is already starting to get going again with SunSport revealing that City are lining up Poch to replace Pep Guardiola in the summer should the Spaniard walk away.
