Jadon Sancho along with Dortmund and Bayern stars ‘take 20 per cent pay cut to help staff during coronavirus isolation’

BAYERN MUNICH and Borussia Dortmund players are set to accept a pay cut to help staff members struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

Reports in Germany state both Bundesliga squads will give up 20 per cent of their wages during the suspension of football across the continent.

Bayern’s board and supervisory board have also taken pay-cuts as a show of support to hard-up staff.

Bild report that a meeting between Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, board member Oliver Kahn, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and senior players including Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski that led to a unanimous agreement.

Likewise, Dortmund are said to have put a deal to their players that should be confirmed during the week.

Club bosses will join Jadon Sancho and Co. in diverting 20 per cent of their salary to the 850 staff members inside the Borussia offices.

Their plan depends on whether games can be played, with the cut reduced to 10 per cent if matches take place behind closed doors.

Each month without a game will therefore release £2.1million of funds with Dortmund’s yearly wage bill topping £127m.

Schalke 04 are also thinking of joining the pledge, with their agreement to be finalised this week.

Most teams have nine games of the Bundesliga season still to play and Bayern lead the way as things stand, sitting four points ahead of Dortmund.

The latest figures out of Germany state that 34,009 have been infected by coronavirus, 172 of which have died.

Measures being put in place by other clubs are largely still being hammered out with Daily Telegraph quoting a Premier League executive pushing for a 50 per cent reduction across the English top-flight.

However players from LaLiga giants Barcelona were reported on Wednesday morning to have rejected their club’s first proposal to take a pay cut.
