How to pronounce Man Utd star Fred’s name properly as it’s revealed fans have been saying it wrong

WE’VE all been pronouncing Manchester United star Fred’s name wrong this whole time.

The Brazilian, full name Frederico Rodrigues De Paula Santos, is simply known as “Fred” on these shores.

But in a video shared to Man Utd’s official Twitter account, the midfielder, 26, has revealed the real pronunciation of his name.

In a short clip it sounds more like “Frej”, or even “Fredge”…

And Fred is not the only player to reveal his name is being mispronounced by us Brits.

Last month, N’Golo Kante revealed his surname should be pronounced “Kon-tay” in French – but did confess “Kan-tay” is acceptable in Malian.

Also, incoming Tottenham star Krzysztof Piatek is pronounced “Piantek” – which means “Friday” in Polish.

Fred’s name being said slightly incorrectly will be the least of his worries though.

The Brazilian – a £52million signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018 – has had a season to forget.

Fred has failed to score a single goal in 24 games across all competitions this term.

And fans have turned on him after time and time again missing his opportunities to make the second central midfield spot his own in the absence of Paul Pogba.

His woeful free-kick in the loss at Arsenal is a particular sore spot for the Man Utd faithful.

But there has been a little sliver of good news for Fred – after it was revealed he was the quickest player in the Red Devils’ squad… with a higher top speed than a roadrunner.
