High-paid exec, 38, complains to EA Sports after spending £13k on FIFA 20 Ultimate Team packs

A HIGH-paid executive who spent £13,000 on FIFA 20 Ultimate Team packs has filed a complaint against EA Sports.

The 38-year-old CEO, who has been given the false name ‘Bruno’, claims the Fifa Ultimate Team (FUT) mode is “addictive” and like “playing in a casino.”

FUT sees players try to build their dream team of top footballers to compete against others online.

And they are allowed to use real cash, as well as in-game points, to boost their chances of unlocking big names in random card packs.

Bruno said: “[It was] a nightmare. I wasted £13k in three years, it really was a vicious circle.

“[I started by] spending £8.68 to try to improve my team. Then I did it again once, then twice.

“I always thought it was the last time, but the system is made so that it pushes you to pay without really realising it.

“In the end, I no longer had a social life, I spent all my time on FUT, every evening, every weekend.

“It was like a drug no one has warned you about.”

Two lawyers have now launched legal proceedings against the FUT mode.

L’Equipe quotes Victor Zagury and Karim Morand-Lahouazi as saying: “We have filed two complaints against persons unknown in Bobigny and Creteil on behalf of two clients.

“We also believe that the purchase of packs with completely random content is part of a game of chance.

“It is a slot machine that has been introduced to the family home.

“This is the first time that FIFA has been attacked in France, it made some noise.

“Since then, we have received hundreds of messages and have already filed 15 additional complaints, from men aged 19 to 42, from all over France and from all walks of life.

“Before, some players were afraid because EA is all-powerful. It acts at the same time as the state that taxes you, the bank that collects and the judge who sanctions.

“But people are speaking up.”
